"We believe that embassies have many functions, but especially in trade issues, because Argentina needs to export more, much more. We had reached exports of 85 billion U.S. dollars per year, and in 2019 they were a bit over 60 billion U.S. dollars," Sola told Radio del Plata.

BUENOS AIRES, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Argentine Foreign Minister Felipe Sola said here Saturday that the country should explore more business opportunities abroad to increase exports.

"We believe that embassies have many functions, but especially in trade issues, because Argentina needs to export more, much more. We had reached exports of 85 billion U.S. dollars per year, and in 2019 they were a bit over 60 billion U.S. dollars," Sola told Radio del Plata.

In the first five months of this year, Argentina has exported 22.602 billion dollars and imported 15.990 billion dollars worth of goods, with a trade surplus of 6.612 billion dollars, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.

Sola referred to a report presented recently to 64 national business chambers, which suggests what high-demand products Argentina can produce.

The report, done by the Argentine Foreign Ministry with help from 93 Argentine embassies across the world, found that most of the country's export opportunities lie in cereals, vegetable oils, meat and seafood products, dairy, flour and wines.

"With all that information and with a global market study, we have selected five products to export to 62 countries, which have given 242 concrete business opportunities for Argentina," Sola said.
